Turin
(Torino) is one of the most accessible cities thanks to the
ad
hoc structures and services that are designed to make a stay
in the city more pleasant for the disabled. On the occasion of
the recent 2006 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, further
improvements were made to the tourist
structures and to the city’s cultural locations in
terms of accessibility and safety.
From the moment of
arrival there are transport services – taxis,
trams, buses – designed to take wheelchairs, which will
whisk you to your destination. The many pedestrian areas in
the centre of the city make it easy to move around and admire
the historic and artistic treasures of Turin (Torino) without
risk. If you want to discover the city from a new point of
view, you can sail down the river Po on the boats
Valentino and Valentina or sail to the top of the
Mole Antonelliana with the crystal lift
admiring first the exhibits of the museum and then a
spectacular view of the city.
Clubs and
restaurants are now barrier-free, while the most
modern hotels have rooms specifically
equipped for wheelchairs. Ask Turismo Torino for free
assistance in helping you to organise and book your
stay.
Cultural life is rich and stimulating and there are
now few barriers that prevent disabled visitors from
discovering the city. Beginning from the many museums in Turin
(Torino) and the province: the Museo Egizio, Museo
Nazionale del Risorgimento, Museo Nazionale del Cinema, the
Contemporary and Modern Art Museums, Palazzo Reale, Museo
dell’Automobile…. The guide Musei per tutti –
accessible museums gives information on each of the
buildings, the availability of adjacent car parks, the
accessibility of the entrance, the ticket office and the
bookshop, the presence of lifts and stairlifts, the location
of the safety exits and the toilets, the exhibition route, the
opportunities for activities and guided visits specifically
destined for the disabled, the presence of telephones and
internet stations. The guide can be purchased at the Turismo
Torino information points.
At almost all the structures
and/or temporary exhibitions in the city multilingual guides
are available. Book this service at Turismo Torino.
If you
love nature the parks and gardens in the city
and its surroundings are easily accessible and reachable, in
some cases thanks to special vehicles, offered free of charge,
for example at La Mandria, one of the royal residences near
Turin (Torino). Open-air sport will also be an unforgettable
experience: riding or playing golf in the Gavi hills, one of
the clubs mentioned by the Federazione Italiana Golf Disabili,
will show you how easy it is to enjoy your
holiday.
Disabled
are entitled a to a low
price
transportation service which connects the city to the airport.
The vehicle is located outside the airport building (Arrivals
level, just in front the First Aid office) in a
specially-reserved area easily accessible to disabled users.
